Sr. Software Engineer (Big Data)

Vibrent is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer with a solid understanding of design, data structure, and computer science fundamentals. This position will be a primary lead in developing technologies at the forefront of Internet of Things (IoT) data harvesting and collection. You will do this and more in a highly collaborative environment full of talented professionals who are dedicated to helping people.

This role is a remote position with required travel.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with high-availability, high-frequency mobile sensor technologies and has a passion for making a difference in people’s lives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a high-frequency data collection framework intended for a range of physical sensor and user interface technologies
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code while promoting best software development practices and embracing emerging standards
  • Work with sensor technologies and data science experts
  • Ability to investigate real-world software development issues and proactively seek the necessary documentation and support needed to address them
  • Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Create and maintain software documentation

Our perfect candidate has… 

  • A BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of design and development of highly scalable web-based Java applications
  • Experience with large scale enterprise server-based application deployments
  • Experience with very high frequency message-queueing frameworks (e.g. Kafka, ActiveMQ)
  • Experience with modern schema development (e.g. Avro, JSON Schema)
  • Experience configuring and designing microservice architectures
  • Experience configuring and utilizing a range of database technologies (e.g. Hadoop, SQL, NoSQL)
  • Experience using modern version control tools such as SVN, Git
  • Familiarity with Agile Software Development principles and tools
  • Knowledge of big data processing tools a plus (e.g. Apache Spark, Apache Storm, Confluent)
  • Knowledge of data science tools a plus (e.g. R, SciKit Learn, Weka, Rapid Miner, SPSS)
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of users (internal and external), strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership.
